Reality bites through a suggestive tube. Kaleidoscopic days is a serie of evocative photographs which deal with everyday life as something hypnotic and elliptic, showing a new universe inside the mundane.
The idea of routine as something hypnotic was in my mind since a time before but it is materialized during the Covid confinement period in Spain, this tough time push forward the initial idea it selves because those moments, objects and daily routine is forced to the limits, thus forming the visual concept of the project. Kaleidoscopic days is not a diary and it doesn’t´t want to be a graphical document of a certain period of time, therefore is an expansive and working on project.
The process as I mentioned before is based on pictures of my reality in terms of daily personal objects and situations, the particular and the social is confronted.
The serie describes different moments, from recipes ( which I cooked right after take the photo) to situations like practice sports indoor ( because outside is not allowed ), working from home, familiar task… Regarding process and production I started as usual, taking pictures with artificial light in the studio to later on edit them in the computer, but as long as the confinement was passing we needed to go to the terrace to get fresh air and sunlight, that was the moment when I started to take the photographs in the terrace with natural light in order to get more light, color and dark shadows and of course have some fresh air indeed, which was completely needed. Geometry, aesthetic, immersive, hypnoticall are keywords to define the project, the main idea is show a mundane world in a aesthetic manner by keeping the dizziness of the visual approach to transmit the routine and everyday life, for the final purpose of searching a viewer´s reflection later.
Note: Kaleidoscope came from the greek, Kalos ( beauty ), Eidos ( image ), Scopeo ( observe ).
